Jhunjhunu : A land of Brave Soldiers, Business Tycoon and the hub of Great Initiatives

History

A small town of 5929 square Kilometre is located in between the border of Haryana and Rajasthan. This Town comes under the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan along with two other major District of Rajasthan namely Sikar and Churu. Various structure and old construction tells the chronicles about the richness of the town in the past. It was not clear in history about who was the genuine founder of the town but there is a mentioning that the town is under an autonomous functioning under of its own king. The town was developed with all its infrastructure to provide assistance to the Baniya (The traders and Merchants) so that the town would get its share and the kingdom remain prosperous and flourishing. History mentioned about jhunjhunu in the Vikrams Era 1045 when the town was under Chauhan dynasty. After Chauhans, Nawab had captured the territory and ruled for almost 280 years.  Sidhraj was the renowned king of the Jhunjhunu at the time when the Chauhan Dynasty is in power. In the year 1450, Mohammad Khan and his son Samas Khan had captured the town from the Chauhans.

Jhunjhunu was ruled by numbers of Nawabs in the succession. Below is the list of all of them. Rohilla Khan was the last nawab who ruled this flourished town Jhunjhunu.

Rohilla Khan was the last ruler of all the Nawabs. In his kingdom, Rohilla had appointed Shardul Singh as the Diwan of the Jhunjhunu. He was very trustful, Courageous and brave just like his ancestor Rao Sekha ji who was the ruler of Shekhawati before the Nawabs. Rohilla Khan has a great amount of trust on Shardul Singh and after the death of Rohilla Khan. Shardul Singh became the ruler of Jhunjhunu. He ruled the state for about twelve years and after his death, the states become scattered into five region and all these five regions were administered by his five sons. Shardul Singh had six children from three wives. One of them had expired at a very young age. Remaining five sons become the independent rulers of the different regions of Jhunjhunu.


Thakur Jowrawar Singh was the Eldest son born from the first wife at Kant (now a village in Alsisar Block in Jhunjhunu). He was the ancestors of the families of Taen, Malsisar, Gangiyasar and Mandrella etc.

Thakur Kishan Singh was born in 1709 from the third wife of Shardul Singh. He was the ancestor of the families from Khetri, Arooka, Seerga, Alsisar etc.
Thakur Kuwar Bahadur Singh, Akhay Singh, Thakur Nawal Singh Bahadur and Thakur Kesri Singh were born from the third wife of the Shardul Singh. The administration of all these five sons collectively known as Panchpana.

Business families such as Birla, Piramal, Dalmia, Rungta, Maheswari, Khaitan, Poddar, Singhania and many more are from Jhunjhunu. If we talk about the Shekhawati regions many more names adds-up to the list like Bajaj from Sikar and  Mittal from Churu. From an anecdote by one of the teachers from Jhunjhunu, the land also had many business tycoons immediately after the independence of India. Almost 17-20 business big houses were from the Jhunjhunu. Bagar, a small Nagar Palika in Jhunjhunu had highly equipped hospitals at those times but as the times passes the hospital had to sell their equipment as they get old.

G.D Birla: Ghanshyam Das Birla was born in Pilani. His father Raja Baldeodas Birla was the first one in the family who went to Bombay (Now Mumbai) and established a number of businesses on trade. G.D Birla was most successful amongst the other three brothers in Birla Family.

There was an incident where Aditya Birla talks about the advice that he received from his grandfather. His grandfather G.D Birla writes "eat only vegetarian food, never drink alcohol or smoke, keep early hours, marry young, switch-off lights when leaving the room, cultivate regular habits, go for a walk every day, keep in touch with the family, and above all, don’t be extravagant
Jhunjhunu also posses an eminent engineering institute BITS Pillani. The Institute was also the gift of Birla to the country. Currently, there are a number of international schools and three international BITS centre is functioning. A number of students from all across India had enrolled in the institute. The institute offers several courses on engineering, masters in Business Administration as well as in PhD. According to the Nation Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF), BITS Pilani Secures the 9th rank amongst the various eminent institution of the country. The Institute's host number of students from all parts of India and abroad.

The Town is famously known for diligent soldiers. The land has made numerous sacrifices to protect their country from terror and to safeguard the line of control in the battlefield. Jhunujhunu had its own culture of producing battle heroes, every village had at least three to four soldiers in service and many retired one. If you will roam around these villages, you will find monuments of the martyrs. The soldiers of this town had even fought in the first and second world war. You name the war that India had fought and you will find the martyrs from this land of brave soldiers.

Captain Ayub Khan became the war hero of the 1965 Indo-Pak war as under his brave leadership he was able to push back the Pakistani army from Sialkot. With his old Sherman tank of Indian army at that time, He was able to dismantle the anti-aircraft guns. He with his platoon also destroyed three anti-tank Patton of Pakistan army and captured one under custody. After this manoeuvre, the Pakistan army escaped Sialkot. Ayub Khan also becomes the two time MP from Jhunjhunu. He was the only Muslim MP from Rajasthan who won the election two times consecutively.

Apart from all these renowned facts, the town is also known for the various initiatives that the district administration had taken in the past 4-5 years. One of them was "Apna Baccha Apna Vidyalaya". The initiative gains a lot of public recognition. To promote the initiative district administration had formed a committee and route plan to bridge the gap between the community and the school to increase the enrollment of the Government school at scale. The committee involves the different education department like SSA, RMSA, DIET, Piramal Foundation and other departments of government likes Women Child department, ICDS and The program crossed the set target and also received an appreciation from the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi during the Man-Ki-Baat radio show.

The district administration had worked day and night to improve the gender inequality of the district. After constant effort and continuous campaign on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, The district government was able to improve the sex ration from 901 in the year 2015 to 955 in 2017. The initiative like lunch with Ladli, collector Ki Class, Community Bal Sabha, Door to door Campaign, School visit by parents, Collector ki Kurshi, Ratri Chaupal, Girl child Birthday celebration are the few ones that had given a boost in improving the result and the mindset of the people had started yawning.

There are some tourist places in Jhunujhunu as well. Mandawa is famous for Bollywood film shooting because of its age-old Havelis that provides antique sceneries. Apart from that Alsisar Mahal is famous for its yearly music festival that enchants the folk's rhythms in the heart of the city. Lohargal, with a story from the epic Mahabharata, is a tourist spot for many virtuous and curious tourist. Rani Sati Mandir is famously known with all its eternity. Marwari's from all over the world visit this temple. The temple had the highest number of foreign tourist footfall in Jhunjhunu.
